Organic Astragalus powder

Astragalus is a shrub that actually belongs to the legume family. Hence its name, ‘pea-grass’. In China, it has been used in TCM as a medicinal herb for over 2,000 years. The useful part of the plant is not the fruit or the leaves, but the sun-dried roots. The highest quality roots are those that are thicker, firm and sweet.

Traditionally in China, it is used as a tonic for the whole body, as it is an extremely powerful antioxidant that successfully combats all types of inflammation. It is also considered an adaptogenic herb, meaning it strengthens all the body’s organ systems. However, it does not interfere with their natural functioning. Nor does it overstimulate the organs; instead, it restores the body’s lost balance. This is why it is sometimes referred to as the ‘great protector’.

Astragalus is an exceptionally rich source of specific antioxidants and selenium. Due to its adaptogenic properties, it is used for various bodily conditions that indicate an imbalance.

You can also make tea from the powder by boiling one tablespoon of astragalus powder in a cup of water. Leave to steep for 1 hour, then strain. Drink in small sips throughout the day.

Astragalus is often used in combination with other herbs and plants, such as angelica, turmeric, ginseng, ashwagandha and spirulina.
