Uses

Neem powder can be used as a dietary supplement, taken for at least 3 weeks at a dose of 1 teaspoon per day. You can also make a tea by simply mixing the powder with warm water and drinking it. We recommend taking it on an empty stomach, at least half an hour before a meal.

For cosmetic purposes, it is used as an additive in hair and face masks, exfoliants for sensitive skin and baths. Neem is suitable for all skin conditions; after use, the skin is soft, radiant and healthy, as neem improves its structure. To prepare a hair mask (for an itchy scalp or dandruff), mix 2 tablespoons of neem powder with water (or coconut oil) to form a paste. Apply this once a week to washed but damp hair, leave it on for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Prepare a face mask in the same way, adjusting the quantities as required. If you have dry skin, you can use oil (almond oil) instead of water. In general, however, neem is used for oily, combination and acne-prone skin. Apply to clean facial skin, avoiding only the area around the eyes, and leave on for 15 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly and continue with your usual skincare routine. Prepare a scrub using a little water, neem powder and sea salt. For a bath, simply add 3 tablespoons of neem powder to the water. If you have allergies or itchy skin, you can also use more neem powder (5–6 tablespoons). After soaking, rinse the skin thoroughly.

It also acts as a natural pesticide and fertiliser. It can also be used as a natural cleanser and disinfectant. It is also used as an ingredient in homemade cosmetics – added to soaps, scrubs, creams and even toothpastes, as it strengthens and protects the gums (neem bark was actually originally used for cleaning teeth, so a pinch of neem powder can also be added to ordinary toothpaste).

Recommended daily intake

Start with half a teaspoon and gradually increase the dose to up to 1 teaspoon per day. You can also take half a teaspoon twice a day. Mix the neem powder into warm water or milk and drink it.
